Plans To Expand A Prominent Business Park In County Durham

3rd October 2022

Outline planning permission is being sought for phase two of Jade Business Park in Murton, which is owned by Durham County Council and located at the site of the former Hawthorn Colliery.

Industrial agency specialists HTA Real Estate acted for the Council on Phase one of the scheme, which comprised seven industrial/warehouse units constructed in 2020 and which is now fully let.

The park currently employs 160 people, with this figure expected to rise to more than 250 in the next five years.

Phase two looks to create an additional seven units totalling 550,000 sq ft. which will range in size from 20,000 sq ft to 250,000 sq ft and once completed could support 1,000 jobs.

The development will be brought forward by Buckinghamshire Properties Limited and will capitalise and build on the success of phase one and bring new opportunities to the area. It will provide a much-needed employment offer for the area.

The scheme will go before committee with a recommendation for approval.
