22nd November 2021

Industrial and Warehouse property specialists HTA Real Estate have been appointed as joint agents in relation to the exciting Hillthorn Business Park, Sunderland, a joint venture between Sunderland City Council and their investment partner, Legal and General.

The 600,000sq.ft. development, incorporating sustainable building technology is the North East’s largest speculative industrial scheme in over a decade. The first phase of the £60m Sunderland development - which could bring up to 1,600 jobs to the North East – has recently been granted planning approval.

Phase one is to the west of the site, with work set to start within weeks with the units due for completion in Q4 2022. It marks a significant step forward for the two-phase development with proposals for a wide range of industrial and advanced manufacturing space. The site is ideally located close by to the Nissan plant.

Russell Taylor a Director at HTA Real Estate commented “ This is one of the most important industrial developments in the North East for many years. Its strategic position in Washington next to Nissan cements this area as an established prime location with superb access to both the A1 and A19. It is being provided at a time when available modern industrial building stock is limited and therefore we are expecting strong demand in all size ranges”.

Avison Young's Newcastle office have been appointed along with HTA Real Estate as the joint agents on the scheme.
