Plastic coatings specialist snaps up Seaham unit

19th March 2017

Plastic coating specialist, FM Coatings Ltd has purchased A & B Endeavour Court to accommodate its expansion.

The Boldon-based firm has grown as a result of an increase in demand for exterior painted car parts in modern cars, and the majority of new jobs FM Coatings expect to create, up to 75 by 2020, are likely to be for operators of their machinery.

The company which was founded in 1988, specialises in painting plastic components for the automotive industry, supplying to major manufacturers including Nissan, Ford, Land Rover, Jaguar, Toyota, Saab, Aston Martin and Lotus.

Endeavour Court comprises six industrial units developed in 2002 by Alex Hutchinson, the North East developer of Riverside House in Sunderland and the Turnbull Building in Newcastle city centre.

Mick Ford, director of FM Coatings, said: “There were a number of reasons for choosing the factory in Seaham, including the excellent support we received from Durham County Council.

The new fully automated paint plant in our Seaham factory will allow us to expand further into the exterior component market where we have seen considerable growth over the last 12 months.

The new plant will be commissioned in June this year with the first project starting in December. We expect the majority of new employees to come from the immediate local area and look forward to recruitment starting later this year.”

Nick Atkinson, director at HTA Real Estate said: “It is great to see FM Coatings doing so well and expanding into new space.  The automotive industry continues to be a very important sector for the regional economy.  Industrial sites along the A19 corridor close to Nissan continue to be very popular and we are delighted to have secured this sale for Northern Land.”
